Ritvinians

The cave people

Deep sunken eyes, and extremely pale skin. Very sensitive to sunlight.

Usually hunt around underground caves, and farm various forms of fungi, herd large insects, and occasionally dive deep for fish.

Because of their physiology they are well suited to swimming and cave crawling

The Ritvinians spend most of their time mastering the art of selective breeding and in their own right slowly become masters of insect genetic mutations, creating various insectoid breeds to accomplish various different tasks

Using their limited magical abilities they are able to use light polymorphic abilities to transform and develop these breeds further and rapidly to meet the needs of their society. By polymorphing certain beetles they were able to create large carriage drawing beetle cattle, as well as raising large ungarworms for cattle and sustenance. By combining various fungal produce, insectoid meat, and the occasional fish from their deep diving expeditions, the Ritvinians were able to develop a rich food culture in their cave homes. They would treasure the fruits and exotic fish they were able to sample on the surface in the Brightest Night Festivities, but were quite content in their dank homes.

Ritvinians have a very melancholic history, with the shared joy of being a sister race on their home island, and learning how art and sport was truly fantastic, while at the same time teaching and improving the lives of their sisters in the sun, giving them the means to further advance those interests. However with the falling of the moon and the eradication of Ousuolson kind, Ritvinians were now left alone in their caves to unfold the mystery of the falling sky.

Their drive to explore past their island had grown greatly as the extinction of their sisters had left a dramatic impact on their psyche. Those that had been seen like family had been ripped away from them and for reasons that the Ritvinians could not comprehend. Ritvinian kind had made a pledge in that moment, to conquer and advance their understanding of their land, and rise above and beyond it, and beyond their fear of the potentially empty and barren world beyond them.

As time passed on, the Ritvinians began to master their understanding of their own biology and ways to further enhance it. They still sought to retain most of their form as they saw them as near perfect, but had finally worked out a solution to the sun being as painful to them as it was. Finally able to work on the surface, their curiosity began to drive them to seek the stars and what lied beyond them.

As the ages progress and their knowledge of the genome increases they eventually develop the means to influence the genetic code of organisms in vitro, enabling them to become further resistant to the harsh conditions of space while allowing the Ritvinians to keep them fed and oxygenated from inside their bodies, creating a being thats existent is meant to be symbiotic with the Ritvinians. By providing it the means of surviving in space, they were able to travel along through the stars.
