Dragons were an Etherian species and one of the four Alliance species. Dragons were the originators of magic, and much of their being was related to magic. Unlike the other three Alliance species, dragons were natural wanderers, and often traveled around Etheros to spread knowledge, particularly of magic.

History

Some time before 0 TEC, one of the Etherian sentiences manifested itself on the Northern Islands as the prime dragon.

Corruption

Because of dragons' nomadic nature, they were very widespread. As such, in [] TEC when the Vile One made an attempt to corrupt the species of Etheros by sending pieces of itself to the surface, the dragons were most affected. While a number of them remained unaffected, many were corrupted. Those corrupted could be distinguished by their coloration, which would shift from their natural metallic coloration (metallic dragons) to solid colors (chromatic dragons).

Once corrupted, the chromatic dragons were fed disinformation by the Vile One that the other species of Etheros were plotting to destroy dragonkind using their newfound magical abilities. Convinced of this, the chromatic dragons, assisted by the forces of the Vile One, began a campaign to destroy the other species of Etheros, a conflict known as the Dragon War. To oppose them, the other species of Etheros, including the metallic dragons, formed the Second Alliance for Freedom.

The Dragon War lasted for 250 years, when finally the chromatic dragons and forces of the Vile One were defeated. Any remaining chromatic dragons fled into isolation underground. While encouraged not to do so by the other species of Etheros, the metallic dragons also went into isolation out of grief and shame for their former families in the chromatic dragons.

Legacy

Due to their long lifespans, both the chromatic and metallic dragons survived for some time in exile. Over their absence, the knowledge of the dragons' existence on the surface faded until they were completely forgotten, and eventually their magical teachings were also forgotten.

The existence of dragons was completely unknown on Etheros until [sometime in Era 6] TEC when telgarr warrior Kyusótiras discovered the remains of a cybernetically-altered dragon in a cave. The dragon, while dead, still remained partially conscious through its cybernetics. By communing with this little remaining consciousness, Kyusótiras was able to gain rudimentary understanding of magic.
